Merry Christmas Eve, Eve

It's been a very quiet week so far, which has been nice.

I did make it to Yoga Steve on Tuesday and there was very little nose drainage. I call that a huge improvement! It was also a hard class, and there were only 5 of us. There was a lot of extra attention, which meant making the poses a little bit harder. Plus, there were just some hard poses that I wasn't even close to getting. I was happy I went, but this cartoon pretty much sums up how I felt during the class.
Ahh... yoga...

Yesterday I was super proud of myself.
Why you ask? Well, I put off going to happy hour with Jess so I could bike on my trainer? Why was this even more special you are asking? Well, remember how pretty my bike was decorated for Christmas??? It was the perfect excuse to NOT take Carlos down and put him back on the trainer. But I did, and I biked. And I forgot again how much I sweat in a 40 minute trainer ride in my apartment!!

Today - well, I started my vacation early. I mean, with a cupcake that looks like this, how could I not... (PS. Mom and Dad - a new cupcake place you have to add to your list for your next visit!!)

But no worries you 9 readers, I am packing workout close to go to the gym while I am at home.

Anyone want to place bets on how many times I go to a gym???

It's A Quiet Day

It is 4 days before Christmas so it's pretty quiet in the office. I am not leaving until the 24th, so that means it's the perfect time to blog about the weekend.

Friday was date night with Karen. Swimming, yoga, dinner. And as I mentioned, I was still pretty stuffed up from the cold I had (and still am) so I was glad I made her lead. A LOT of stuff came out of my nose, so it was a good thing that pool was full of chlorine!! I only got in about 1600, which I was happy with. My lungs hurt - which they never do swimming, so I was glad I didn't push it.
Yoga was okay - and she was NO yoga Steve. I did the best I could with the poses and not coughing.
And of course dinner was great. As Karen and I each headed home, we realized most people we saw were going out - ahhhh, the life we lead...

Saturday was a triathlon filled day.
I had my last board meeting with the 2010 board. It was a great year, we got a lot accomplished, and I was very happy to be part of a great group of people. I also ran for the 2011 board, was elected, ran for vice president, and was also selected for the position. I am very VERY excited.
That meeting was followed by our club wide annual meeting, and our Kona viewing party. I just LOVE watching Kona. It is currently on my DVR too and will be watched again and again as I am on my trainer...

Sunday was 3 hour spin again. And I did wear my Power Balance Band and I did NOT fall off my bike this time. WOO-Hoo!! It works!! HA!
And, those are hard classes. By the end, the only thing I could say was "I love you Rob" because I hated him so much. Everything was hurting. I know they are good for me, which is why I say I love you and not I hate you, but still. At that moment, I hated him. (But not really.)

And yesterday. This is how I know things are changing. I chose to swim instead of stay at the bar. SHOCKING, I know, I know... Especially because Bri wasn't able to join me, so I went by myself. Instead of drinking.

Yup - times are changing. Again. And I like it.

I Should Have Worn the Power Balance Bracelet

As I mentioned in the previous week+ long catch up post, the past Sunday's spin class deserved a blog post of its own.

This was week two of 3 hour spin and it was needed as I ate a lot on Friday and Saturday. Plus, I had dinner plans on Sunday night so I knew I needed to burn the calories.

Karen, Janie and I made our way to the chatty corner and got all set up. I just use the baskets because I am too cheap to buy another pair of bike shoes and cleats just for spin class, so set up is pretty easy for me. Also, the bikes seemed a bit closer than normal and I was worried about my right armpit being in Janie's face. In fact, that was going to be the title of the post "I Am Worried About My Right Armpit Smell". But Janie didn't seem concerned and we were on our way to 3 hours of spin fun.

Rob does a great job of making the time fly by with sets by songs and other things to distract us. Last week was 2 truths and a lie (where you tell 2 things about yourself that are true and 1 that is a lie. If the class does not guess the lie, you all have to sprint for 15 seconds. Mine were about falling over). This week was 'clean' jokes.

Anyway, I spend a lot of time concentrating on having good bike form and keeping my heels down as Rob tells us what to do. So in addition to adjusting the tension to mimic a hills or flats, we also stand at times.

So remember, I am in baskets (not cleated shoes), concentrating on heels down, and sometimes standing. Can you see where this is going? About 2 hours and 30 minutes into class, we were standing, I was thinking about heels down, and slip - out went my left foot from the basket and tumble to the right I went. Luckily, the bikes were close so I just caught myself on Janie's bike and pushed myself back up, slyly look around to see if anyone saw me.

Of course, Janie and Karen start laugh and said something like "Did you just do what I think you did???"
Me. "SSSHHHHH!!!! No one saw!"
Them "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!"

All and all, I was okay. I had a pretty decent bump on the top of my left foot, and a bit of swelling. I must have hit it on the top of the pedal as I fell to the right.

But yeah, it was pretty funny. Who falls on a stationary bike? Okay, apparently I do. And no, I was not wearing my Power Balance bracelet - but I will be this coming Sunday!

And I Was Doing So Well

I was getting better about blogging.
I was working out and had fun stories again.

Then of course, it happened AGAIN - I GOT SICK!! And am still sick. BBBBBBOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

But here is the recap of last week and this week.
Wednesday, December 8
I believe I mentioned that I was in week long meetings last week. 8:30-5. We got a lot done, but it didn't leave much time to workout. Mr. Shorty Shorts had the great idea to work out in the morning. So, I dragged myself out of bed at 6:35, headed to the metro, and was on a treadmill by 7:15. Mr. Shorty Shorts strolled in at 7:35, and all the treadmills were taken. We did get in a good workout though - and I blamed him for feeling very tired the rest of the day.

Thursday, December 9
For some reason, because Wednesday went so well, we went again to the gym in the morning. And this was my first 'brick' of the season. 20 min on the stationary bike, 15 minutes on the treadmill. WOO HOO! And those 15 minutes on the treadmill was a speedy Thursday workout. DOUBLE WOO HOO! I am even going to let it slide that our shirts were the same color so as we were working on our speed, with the same cadence, in the same color shirts, we looked WAY too similar... Yup, going to let that go...

LAST DAY OF MY MEETING!
And, one of my favorite days of the year - my cookie party! Thanks to Brooke, who came early and decorated, made my place look awesome!
I think everyone had a good time. The majority of the cookies were gone, there were some fantastic decorators, and happy non-holiday cookies to decorate.

Saturday, December 11
Nothing says recovery from a sugar and champagne cocktail high than a sparkling wine tasting!!! Diane gave Brooke, Mary Elizabeth and I our early birthday presents by taking us to a wine tasting. It was delicious.
This was followed up by one of the best presents I have ever received. Diane remembered me talking about eating while training. Apparently, I talked about breakfast sandwiches a lot. So she found this ceramic egg dish, that you can put in the microwave to cook your egg, in the perfect bagel shape!!! How cool is that!?!?! Let's just say I am even more excited to start my real training so I can make breakfast bagel sandwiches!! WOOT!

Sunday, December 12
3 hour spin class. And this class deserves a post of its own. Check back for this next!

Monday, December 13
I start to feel it. A slight stuffy head. I tried to go to bed early, but little luck.

Tuesday, December 14
It was Yoga Steve Day and I was NOT going to let a stuffy head ruin my yoga day.
It was pretty gross because during downward dog, it was like someone turned on the faucet in my nose. It was gross. I don't think Mr. Shorty Shorts noticed, nor did Yoga Steve. But it was gross. And I just went downhill from there. I had to skip out on HH to rest. BOO! And my boss wasn't happy with how my voice sounded, or that my nose looked like Rudolph, so he sent me home.

Wednesday/Thursday/Friday Dec 15-17
The past few days were pretty much the same as above, minus the Yoga Steve. I am coughing, have a stuffy head, nose continues to run, voice is off, and I am NOT working out. It sucks and I hate it. I am trying to sleep, but not getting that great of rest. I am drinking tea, taking Theraflu, drinking plenty of water, and eating soup. But it won't go away. I woke up about 5 in the morning and was coughing straight until 6:30 - which included 'littering' 3 times. I was sick in November, I am not supposed to be sick again. This isn't fair and I would like it to stop.

So tonight, I am going to try to swim with Karen (assuming she still wants to in case she reads this) tonight and hope that helps. Tomorrow is our annual meeting and Sunday is 3 hour spin. I have had enough excuses, I need to start training. I HAVE TO and not be sick!!!

I'm Training for an Ironman

This video made it around the internet, facebook, etc. over the past two days.

It's funny because it's true.
Just hysterical.

It's CHILLY!

I took today off for many reasons

1. I am still tired from 3 hour spin.
2. I am having a party on Friday and I really needed to CLEAN!
3. I am still tired from 3 hour spin.
4. This week I have all day meetings. No time for the gym during lunch :-(
5. I am still tired from 3 hour spin.
6. It's cold and that makes me lazy.
7. I am still tired from 3 hour spin.
8. It gave me an excuse to wear my super cute socks/slippers.Don't hate.

Weekend Catchup

Yet again, another great weekend, with another long post to fill in my 9 (YES, NINE) readers.

Friday - The day just got away from me with meetings that lasted 90 minutes where all I said was "That was approved 2 weeks ago" followed by another meeting where I said "I did that last week. I will re-send you the e-mail" followed by yet another where I yes "Yes, and I am still waiting for OMB to make a decision". And when I asked if I could skip the meetings (to workout - hello, it was pilates day) I was told it would be in my best interest to go - just in case something came up. Nothing came up.

Anyway, this was followed by heading to National Geographic to see Ben Folds! Now he wasn't singing, but was talking about his pictures. It was really interesting and increased my love for Ben.

It was good that the evening was early because Saturday was our first OFF SEASON TRIATHLON!!
A swim at Wilson, brunch (with unlimited mimosas), and a pedicure!! It really was a great day. The swim went pretty well - especially when Laural said "Hey, want to do another 400, 3000 yards sounds better than 2600, right?" Of course I said yes!! 3000 yards meant 3000 calories at brunch, right?

Well, maybe not, but that is how many I ate anyway. Oh, and remember that 100 push up challenge I mentioned and haven't talked about it since - yeah, others (Karen, Janie and Carolina) are sticking to it - and even do them while waiting for our meals. They're hard core.
After the unlimited mimosa, we all got our manicures and pedicures. I have to say, it was a great way to spend the day.
This was followed by Karen and Sandy playing dress up with me for our first holiday party of the season. Janice was a gracious host and we all had a great time.
Plus, you know we are all in training when we have maybe 2 drinks, eat a lot (which was SO GOOD Janice!!), and were ready to go around 10 - we all had workouts the next day.

So after a great Saturday, and lovey night sleep, I was up and ready for 3 hours of spin. Yes, that's right, 3 hours of spin. It was so painfully good.

This was followed by a slow moving grocery shopping trip filled with fresh veggies and meal ideas. Yes, that means I cooked. Woo-Hoo!

It really was a great weekend. Thanks to all involved!!

Yesterday Was GOOD!

I haven't run in a long time. Yes, I was sick. Yes, it was turkey day. Yes, I prefer sitting on my bike. Yes, those are all excuses.

BUT, I have all these new things to think about while running, so I don't really mind as much as I once did. I am still off my schedule for one reason (excuse) or another, but I knew yesterday had to be a run day. So I put it on my calendar - actually Charles put it on my calendar, and off we went to the treadmills.

It would have been the perfect day to skip.
I, and please don't laugh, can't find my running shoes. I SEARCHED my apartment in the morning with no luck, so I figured they were at work. When I got in, nope - no running shoes. They have to be somewhere, with my special inserts, I am just not sure where. Also, Charles didn't have his stuff. Luckily he lives 3 minutes away from the office so I sent him home to get stuff. This was a no excuses day!

On our way down to the gym, I had to make sure Charles and I didn't match. I H.A.T.E the matchie match. And apparently, there are a few blog posts about that. We were both in blue, but it was okay.
So, I change, get on a treadmill, and I see Charles, who will now be known as Mr. Shorty Shorts. I tried to do a stick figure drawing as I have in the past - but it was not doing the situation justice. And I think it's better for all involved to let imaginations flow on this one...

Anyway, it was hump day hills for Mr. Shorty Shorts and I wanted to work in cadence again.
About 5 minutes into our workouts, Mr. Shorty Shorts and I got treadmills next to each other and we had our plan. He would do hills for a minute, recover for a minute while I would match is cadence (which he can keep while running up the treadmill hill) and try to maintain the faster turnover while he was on a minute recovery, and match back up on his next hill.

Overall, for the little over a mile, it worked! I was, for the most part, able to maintain the faster cadence during his recovery. YAY ME! My legs were beat after that mile, but I was really happy. I spent the rest of the time working on the lean/light touch/and floppy feet when needed. Also, there were many time where I wanted to walk, but didn't because it was matching Mr. Shorty Shorts's recovery. Yay for pushing myself and it feeling good :-)

I would also like to say a specially hello to my Ninth Reader! Good luck with your half marathon program starting on Saturday!! Weekly "set" schedules always seem to help!!

I'm At About 50/50

A few weeks ago I sent Coach a schedule. It was my ideal of what I would be doing from now until Jan/Feb when we really started working together. He made a few changes, but overall was okay with it. And I have been okay with following the said schedule, but Turkey day and random outings really threw me off. Oh, and of course being sick for a week.

Since being sick, and Turkey day, I ate a lot of leftover pie, did some shopping on Black Friday, and caught up on some sleep.

But Saturday, I got up and sat on my bike on the trainer for 45 before brunch. APPROVED!
Sunday I was out and walked to the grocery store, and walked to the river, and walked to the harbor. It was close to 12 miles. YES, 12 MILES!!!
Monday, yesterday, it was a swim day. I told EVERYONE that I was going to swim, even thought I couldn't get anyone to swim with me. I figured if I told EVERYONE that I was going to swim, I would go. I got home from work, packed my swim bag, got to Marcus, stopped by the dry cleaners, picked up my dry cleaning, and drove home. I just could NOT get my self to go to the pool. I couldn't. Just.Could.Not. BUT, I did sit on my bike trainer again for another 45 minutes. And it was good, I felt good. Because I would be lying if I said that 12 miles of walking didn't hurt. If you don't believe me - you try walking 12 miles!!

Anyhoo, today was YOGA STEVE! But, not Steve, some other random chick. she was okay, but no Yoga Steve. Way more of a cardio yoga class than I prefer. I get my cardio from other places and therefore prefer my yoga to concentrate on my core and stretching. But he will be back next week.

BUT, my favorite part of the day - when I came out of yoga class, I saw my friend Scott on the treadmill. He was having a though time and asked for help for his last 5 minutes. Of course I hopped on the t-mill next to him and just started talking. It was one of those times where word vomit actually was the best thing someone could ask for. Something, ANYTHING to distract from what you do not want to be doing. I was more than happy to help out.

And that is why I am about 50/50 on my schedule. I am TRYING.

I know I need to step up, but I am just not there. I am not sure if it's because I am not 100% on my schedule, or I have some mental block of the fact I have finished one, or if there is some other issue I am not dealing with... Who knows... I just hope I am not digging my self a hole I can't get out of.

Gobble Gobble!!

I am thankful for so many things.
Family who love and support me in all I do.
Friends who are just amazing people and inspire me everyday.

Overall, I do know how lucky I am, and I am thankful for all I have. Especially a cousin who can cook a fabulous dinner and Macy's for having a sale tomorrow I am excited to go to during my lunch hour. It sounds like a much better plan than the gym, right?
Right.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING MY 8 READERS!!
