Little Labor Unions on Strike

Today was a pretty busy day at work, but I found time to e-mail with Karen in regards to this seasons race schedule. Mainly about the National Club Championship in Myrtle Beach. See, normally we send 4 speedy club people and place 3rd or 4th - with 4 people. They are that fast. Well this year, because it's an east coast race, the club wants to WIN. Not only will we have speedy people to get us lots of points, they were will be people - and we get points too.

However, I am not sure how my body will be doing that first weekend in October. And it's the week after the Chesapeake man aqua velo (which I am about 85% sure I will be doing). Sooo... that leaves a big "what race do I do". And I am excited because Athena's get points - not just age groupers - so my changes of getting a few more points for the club go up a smidge.

Karen's response made me spit out my water.

"if your feet weren't little labor unions on strike against the management (aka, running) i'd suggest the oly. but. hm. what about the sprint?"

I don't know why - she just has a way with words.

Thanks Karen

I Don't Know the Last Time I Did That...

Put Blain on the trainer and rode on my own.

Last year I did a lot more spin classes where I took Carlos or Blain. This year I have done a few spin classes at the Y (which you would know had I blogged about it) and 1 class with Blain at a DC tri/Conte's spin session - a painfully good time.

But today, Tammy learned she got into the Escape from Alcatraz Tri - which is lottery. So, we had to celebrate! Plus, her birthday was last week. Emily's bday was a few weeks back and M's bday is in a week or 2. And of course, mine was yesterday. So, a good time was had by all.

However, it was stated via e-mail, that we couldn't stay late because people had to do trainer workouts. Emily wrote one out - to which I responded "Are you going to come over and set up my trainer? And poke me with a stick to get me off the couch?"

Well, I get home, my phone goes off with a message "Poke, poke, poke". And it worked! I only rode about 30 minutes and didn't finish the workout, but it was good. I have hard wood floors and didn't want to go past 10, even though there was a towel and yoga mat, I know it's loud.

Hopefully I can keep it up. And I think Emily reads this (or at least used to) and may start sending me texts that say "Poke". HA!

I Love DC

Last night was our Holiday Party/Annual Meeting Take 2/Regional Happy Hour - all rolled into one event. Overall, I think it went pretty well. It was crazy, tons of people, I didn't get to talk to many of my friends, but did get to talk to a lot of people.

So, when I read this story - it just made me laugh. Thanks DCist!

Secret Service Apprehend Naked Jogger Near Ellipse

There was a brief suspicious package investigation around 15th and E streets NW on Wednesday evening, in the area of the Ellipse. As so often happens, the package, which turned out to be a plastic bag with clothes in it, was cleared so quickly we didn't even have a chance to report on it before the incident was already over. But as it turns out, there was more than package on display last night. The Post reports that the man who owned the bag of clothes had discarded it because he decided to go for a naked jog on E Street.
"He wasn't yelling or protesting. Just going for a jog," Wiley said.

Secret Service and D.C. police officers chased the man after he refused to stop.

"He was apprehended, naked though he was," Wiley said.Considering how cold it was last night, we figure this guy either lost a bet or is pretty seriously out of his mind. Did anyone actually, uh, see this particular package for themselves?

You Too Mom!

Hope you have a great day! Love you!

Not Great

I had to go to the gym yesterday, as much as I didn't feel like going. And I am glad I did. It really did help clear my mind from a stupid work issue.

30 minutes on the stair master. This may not sound like a lot, but it was about 100 flights of stairs! And my HR really got up there. Boring, yes. Burned some calories, yes. So overall, I was happy with it.

But I decided I also need to start doing some weights. I really haven't done weights - well, ever. So I started with the assisted pull up machine (which I have attempted before). It was at the end of the lunch rush, so not many people - thank heavens!! Boy, I have no upper body strength AT ALL! I mean I know I am carrying a few (okay, a lot) extra pounds, but still. Embarrassing.

It's just something I want to work on. And even thought I didn't do many, and had a lot of assistance, I totally feel it today, which is a good thing.

I couldn't get out of bed to meet Bri at the pool and tonight is our holiday party for the tri club... But I will make it tomorrow!!

And I Didn't forget

Happy Birthday Dad!!! Love you

Still Sore

Very sore. And all thanks to a 3 hour spin class. Dang - this one seemed much worse than the one last month. Quads, hamstrings, bruises on my fore arms, and my behind. DANG! My padded shorts did not do the job this time.

But it was good. I woke up Sunday morning a lot more sore than I should have been for a 3 mile run. But it was sore in the good way. This was followed by 3 hours on a spin bike. And of course lunch. Ummm... toasted sandwich...

Overall, it was a pretty good way to start off the year.

I celebrated by taking today off :-) It still hurts to stand.

And I couldn't find a good picture about sore muscles, so I started looking for one with spin and found this! How awesome does this look!?!?!

27 and 1500

FIRST POST OF 2010! WOOT!! And it's actually about working out :-)

What do the 2 numbers in my subject line have in common?? What I did this morning.

27 - degrees. Without wind chill. Oh, and it was 8:30 am. But that is what Marcus said this morning as I headed to Iwo Jima Memorial to meet up with Brooke, Mary Elizabeth, Diane and Karen.

Bundled up, (wearing a lot more than these guys) we broke off and headed out. I stared with Diane and did a a run/walk (1:1) and did pretty good. Diane on the other hand I don't think wasn't overly happy with me as I had her go across Memorial Bridge. It was WINDY up there! And pretty windy the entire way back.

But, it felt okay. A slow (and a smidge under) 3 miles, but considering I don't think I have 'ran' since Augusta - I was really happy. So far, my foot is okay. My knees are okay. My back is okay. Hopefully all that will stay that way for awhile...

And of course we headed for something to warm up. And nothing goes better with coffee than a bagel.

But, it is the new year, so I felt the need to do more - just like everyone else. I called Bri and we headed to the pool. Just like everyone else. The pool was N.U.T.S!! Once the masters group got out, it was a tad better, but around 1000 meters, we were on our last nerve. People swimming down the middle of the lane. Oh wait, not swimming, more floating on their back - kind of kicking. In the MEDIUM lane! Wrong.Wrong.Wrong. So we just couldn't take it anymore and hopped out.

But, all of this working out lead to a delicious Z Burger and shake (strawberry orange).

Good thing I have a 3 hours spin class tomorrow to make up for all my rewards.
